Mommy’s Little Man

I cannot believe that in less than 9 days, my baby boy will be turning two years old.  He continues to amaze me by how much information that little noggin of his soaks up.  He can do more than I ever dreamed a child of his age would be able to do.  I know these next few paragraphs might not mean much to you, but I wanted to document everything he has accomplished at this age.  I want to be able to remember these moments for as long as I can.

He knows animals and not just your basics, but some of the harder ones.  At the zoo, he pointed out the lemurs and a hippopotamus.  He can tell the difference between tigers, lions and cheetahs. His obsession with animals is the very reason for the animal theme at his birthday.  Let us not forget how unafraid of animals he is too.  I must thank Jeff’s grandmother for this one day, as she is the one with Amish farm connections!

He has learned to count to ten, but only if he feels up to it.  He can sing, speak and identify his alphabet- A through Z.  He loves books, more then I ever imagined a child could.  Every night he insists on sleeping with one book in his bed and it usually varies.  Colors are coming, slowly but surely.  He can tell you blue and green with no problems, but red and orange confuse him.

Ethan has manners now, too.  Overnight he began saying please, thank you and your welcome.  Of course thank you and your welcome come in their own orders, but he is still trying to use them.  He even says “okay mommy” when I ask him to do something for me, then actual does what I ask (unless of course he is hungry and/or tired).

And let us not forget the biggest thing we have been working on- he’s very excited for his sissy to get here.  He constantly asks to check sissy’s room for “the baby.”  Of course his little heart is broken for a minute or two when he realizes that there is not a baby in her room yet.  He loves to put her clothes away, lay out her diapers and camp out on her bedroom floor during the afternoon.  He is learning that he is “too big” (his words) for the baby swing and that his big boy swing is in the garage.

Some of the less educational things that he has learned that I hoped to have put off for a while:

  • he can swear, sadly.  He has learned bulls**t and oh sh*t- two words that are frequently used in our household and are continuously trying to be broken.
  • Ethan likes to point out that people do in fact have two boobs.  He will point and count at them, man or woman- he holds no prejudice!  Yes, I taught my son the word boobs.
  • Temper tantrums are an almost every day occurrence over things like: pencils and papers.  We also have the occasional meltdown after telling him no, mommy’s checkbook is not a coloring book and neither are your cousins pictures.  Another guaranteed meltdown is when mommy cannot stop what she is doing this very second to bend forward for him to give sissy a kiss.
  • Likes to put his baseball cap on and yell “DUUUUUUUUDE what’s up?” or “what’s up DUUUDE?”  Thanks Dad!

Overall, our lives have been full these past few months.  I hope that his passion for knowledge continues for a long time to come and his personality remains.  He is such a happy boy and so full of life.  Waking up to his smiles, hugs and “i lofs you mommy” brightens my day.  If I could keep him this age forever, I would.

He sounds just like Meghan. I wish we lived even in the same country so they could play together :) . I’m glad I’m not the only one with the meltdowns. We have them pretty much daily too over silly things. Lets hope they don’t last too long but I’m thinking we have a good few years of it yet.

I love two and three years olds. When I was teaching dance, that was my favourite age to teach.
