winter wonderland
Winter is upon us folks!
We have been hit by snow storms from every angle, but you know what? I have never been happier! All I ask for each winter is a white Christmas and by golly George, we will have one this year. Of course, Mother Nature could pull a fast one on us and warm up, but I doubt that it will happen.
Aside from all the white on the ground- one of my favorite things about this time of year is taking part in family tradition. Growing up, we always sat around the fireplace while my father read us Christmas stories. That is one tradition I plan on carrying on with my children- after our fireplace is installed next year.
Something I never gave much thought about until reading an article in the paper is how incredibly hazardous this time of year can be in a home. One of the local families just lost everything because of a candle they had placed a bit too close to their curtains in the living room. How sad must it be to lose everything? Especially during the holiday season- a time for family, friends, laughter and cheer.
Reading that made me think about my candles, oven/stove and the fireplace we will have next Christmas. And as coincidence would have, I received an email directing me to befiresmart.com website. The website raises awareness and spreads simple tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe during the holidays. They are encouraging moms to set time asides to review fire safety precautions and response plans with their families. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about fire safety, please visit the website. You may find something you have overlooked, which could potentially be saving you and your family from any type of loss.
