As I putting away all of Addison’s new clothes from her birthday party, it dawned on me that I never did figure out the best way to maximize storage in her closet. As you can see, everything is just sort of thrown in there.
My thoughts on the subject:
Lowering the hanging bar, so that a second shelf can be added along the top. I would then divide the space to accommodate two hanging bars. Along the bottom, I really would not mind having a shoe rack of sorts, but have also consider one of those under the bed caddy’s.
Jeff’s thoughts on the subject:
Either leaving the closet alone or to add storage cubes along the bottom.
In case you are wondering what all of the “crap” in her closet really is, we’ll start from the bottom. Those 3 plastic boxes along the top are filled with clothes in larger sizes (12 month, 18 month and 24 month). We have dresses, outfits and a couple of jackets hanging, with shoes and miscellaneous items on the lower shelf.
On the far left hand corner are boxes with diapers in the next two sizes, tutus, our Kokopax carrier, pack-and-play, grocery cart cover and a big ‘ol roll of paper that we really do not use too often. I do have other places to store the pack-and-play and Kokopax carrier– I just have yet to get around to it.
Anyway, what I really want to know is, what do you think? Do you have some awesome storage tips and advice?

We did something very similar to what you are describing by creating two hanging bars. Let me see if I can dig up a picture or two…
Okay, so here is what the shelving is like:

We did the double hanging space on one side, and shelves on the other. It can be expanded to more hanging space as needed (but we don’t keep stuff hanging up that he doesn’t wear).
Here is what it looked like shortly after he was born:

The only thing that I don’t really have is a good place for shoes. Right now we are keeping them on on the middle shelf. He’s a boy, so he only has 2 pairs of shoes that he wears regularly in any given season.
But I am still thinking on a solution for storing shoes.
