Six Weeks and Counting
About six weeks ago, Addison started getting periodic fevers and bouts of diarrhea. We were initially told to bring her home and “wait it out.” One of the pediatrician’s at our doctors office thought it was nothing more than a viral bug going around. We took her home to “wait it out,” but then days turned into weeks and we were showing no signs of improvement. After about three weeks of fevers and diarrhea, we called back up to the pediatrician’s office, this time requesting a different doctor. Tests were ordered and results came in– she had a parasite living in her digestive tract. Medication was prescribed and Addison reacted to the first one, so they started a new one. She takes the medication like it’s nothing for three days and then wakes up on the fourth day, back to where she was in the beginning.
My daughter is miserable and no one can seem to figure out what’s wrong with her. We recently had a series of tests ran and all are looking great thus far (except the CMP, which shows slight dehydration). At this point I am feeling helpless. I love our pediatrician and trust her, but do I get a second opinion? Do I take her elsewhere, even though our doctor is running all of these tests?
I am glad I have my notebook computer, it gives me something to do while all of these tests are being run. My notebook is what has kept me from going insane and falling behind both in work and in school. And it helps me look up all of the fancy medical terms being thrown in my direction.

I think it is time to get a second opinion. I know it sucks when you love your pedi but if she isn’t taking it quite as serious/urgent as you think it needs to be, then you should see what someone else thinks! My biggest worry with diarrhea is dehydration which can be VERY scary, especially in babies. Sending tons of well wishes miss Addison’s way.. I hope she gets better soon
Poor baby!
Oh dear, I’m so sorry things are so messed up with Addison! I know it must be miserable to have a sick child, she’s miserable, you’re miserable and worried! Hope it all gets better soon! Happy healthy thoughts your way!
You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn’t changed.
“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don’t cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.
