When Spring decided to bless us with it’s presence, we were pleasantly surprised. Not only did we have fabulous weather, but flowers that usually don’t bloom until Summer decided to peak through and it looked as though we could kiss dreary weather good-bye.
As with any season in Michigan, we learned the hard way (again). While the weather still has it’s beautiful and wonderful moments, we still had a few small snow flurries and lots of rain to ruin our parade. Bad weather aside, I have not slowed down on my home improvement projects for the great outdoors. In fact, I have been working diligently to plan out the deck we will be building and the furniture I will be purchasing to accompany the said deck.
Furniture planning has been a cinch, as I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember. I want something with a “wow” factor without going overboard. I want to buy chair cushions and a offset patio umbrella. I want to have raised flower beds around the outer perimeter of my deck and my back yard to look like a Better Homes and Garden magazine cover. Okay, so maybe not that drastic, but I want to be appealing, comfortable and inviting. I’m itching to have cook out’s in the back yard with our friends and watch the kids run around the back yard like crazy. Bring on the gorgeous weather already.. I’ve been waiting!
Sometimes, it’s the little things.

Working in the nursing home setting can be rewarding for several reasons. You can learn so much history from resident’s and lessons about life, love, family and money. Every day that I walk into work, I am eager to learn something new. For those of you who are scared of the elderly, I promise you that their words will move you. Being of a young age, it really is a blessing. Some of these people have done amazing things for our country and now I am able to pay them my respects my taking care of them.
Another thing I love about working as a CENA is seeing the generational gap. Some of the older ladies I care for are still very much the same as I imagine they were in their younger years. They wear skirts and blouses, refusing to give into pants for women. In fact, one of our resident’s explained her disgust for the way today’s generation dressed. She finds it appalling. Some of the men even have stuck to their khakis, dress shirts and Fedora Hat.
It does my heart good to see a generation still stuck in their ways. Very prim, proper, traditional and respectful. Today’s generation could learn a lot from the older generation.
You live, you learn.

When I made the decision to go back to school, I was not educated about the financial aspects of it all. In fact, I am $40,000 in debt to my student loans because I took out far more money than I actually needed. If I had it to do over again, I would have applied for Pell Grants, Scholarships and other sources of free money towards education. I highly suggest to any of you who are planning on attending college, plan wisely. Don’t spend more than absolutely necessary and make small payments towards your debt while you are still in school. Don’t let the price tag creep up on you so slowly that when all is said and done, you feel as though you are choking financially.
